eMokes in Michigan!
While driving through Charlevoix, MI a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon several Moke America eMokes for sale! So glad I took that wrong turn! So what’s an eMoke? It’s an electric Moke of course. But what’s a Moke? In the 1960s the Mini Moke was to the original Mini Cooper what the VW Thing was to the Volkswagen Beetle. Think of the 1960s Moke as a beach buggy body on a Mini Cooper chassis.
The new eMoke utilizes all new components and ditches the vintage drivetrain for an all-electric power plant powerful enough to make it street legal (though definitely not freeway approved). Charging takes 8 hours on a standard 110 volt plug, and a full charge offers a quoted range of 40 miles. If being seen in a brand-new, all-electric, vintage-inspired beach buggy isn’t appealing enough, you should check out the James Bond themed San Monique Edition. You can cos-play as Roger Moore in “Live and Let Die”.
I am sure these are a blast to drive! The real question is how much is all this fun going to cost? The base price is $19,995, and if you do want the 007-esque San Monique Edition, expect to pay $26,975, plus fees. Will this work as a first car? No, not even as a second car in my house. But as a fun toy, or instead of a golf cart, it might be just the ticket. If you have a cottage, wouldn’t this look perfect in its garage? Next time I’m in Charlevoix, I am going to ask for a test drive!
