ChargerLight for the Chevrolet Bolt
Today, I installed a charging port light on my 2019 Chevrolet Bolt LT. Installing it was by far the easiest thing I have ever done to a car! If you own a Bolt, you’ve probably noticed that the charge port isn’t illuminated and that it should be. To be fair, when plugging the car in at home, my garage is pretty well lit, and I’ve never had an issue seeing to charge. I realized the error of Chevrolet’s ways while on a road trip to the Chicago Auto Show in February. A trip I wrote about here.
Pulling up to an unfamiliar charger, in the middle of the night, in the dark and the snow. Realizing that I had left my phone in the car, and needed its flashlight to see so that I could plug the car in. This is exactly the moment that I first wished the charging port of the Chevrolet Bolt was illuminated. It wasn’t until several months later that I discovered someone had already solved this problem, a company called Microsystems Development. They design and manufacture the $29 Charger Light here in the United States. It is waterproof, and uses replaceable batteries, no wiring required. To install the Charger Light, wipe down the area where they tell you to place it, remove the adhesive covering, and place the device as far to the right as you can, so as to avoid the ridge in the port housing. Voila! Super easy to install, and it looks like it was always meant to be there.
I’ve only used the Charger Light for a day, but couldn’t be more impressed with it. I’d like to thank Microsystems Development for sending me a unit for review! Dear readers, I will keep you posted on this little light of mine, like how long the batteries last, etc. In the meantime, I am posting a video from the manufacturer, as well as some pictures of my unit, up close and installed on my Bolt. Enjoy!
