Jeep Compass and Renegade 4xE Plug-In Hybrids Announced
Today, Jeep Europe held a virtual press conference to unveil the plug-in hybrid versions of the Compass and Renegade sport utility vehicles. 4xE (pronounced “four by e”) is how Jeep plans to market their electrified vehicle line-up going forward. Both utilize the same 11.4kWh battery pack and 60 horsepower electric motor paired with a 1.3 liter gas engine. Both offer up to 31 miles of EV only range (i’m assuming this is on the WLTP test cycle, so I would guess EPA will peg it closer to 25 miles of range). While neither vehicle is my cup of tea, I am super excited to see more plug-in options across different vehicle segments. Jeep made sure to point out that both will be offered in the very capable Trailhawk trim, and that these PHEVs are off-road ready. That’s good to hear, as Jeep plans to unveil a 4xE version of the Wrangler at some point in the future as well. For many drivers, they may be able to drive all week long on electric power alone, and only use the gas engine on the weekends, which would be great. If you want to learn more, check out the press conference video posted below, and watch as the electified Jeeps are put through their paces. Enjoy!
