Hemmings - 1904 Pope-Waverly at Hershey Auction
So far, this is the final EV consigned to the October RM Sotheby’s Auction in Hershey, PA. If more are included, we will be on the lookout! Here are links to all of the other electric vehicles that will be at this event: 1916 Detroit Electric; 1916 Milburn; 1909 and 1916 Rauch and Lang’s.
The 1904 Pope-Waverley Chelsea originally sold for $1100. It was manufactured in Indianapolis, IN and had whopping 3 hp. Given the roads of the time, it was probably terrifyingly fast. After all, this is was built in a time when automobile safety included the phrase “thrown clear”. This particular vehicle looks to be in incredible shape, given that is is 115 years old, I’m assuming it must’ve been restored at some point, but the auction catalog is scarce on details. Check it out in greater detail below.
