Car and Driver - Cars Worth Waiting For 2021-2025
Car and Driver has compiled a list of cars that are destined for driveways in the near future, and sussed out those worth the wait. Several on their list burn fossil fuels, so we are going to skip those, and just tell you about the EVs on the list. First up, is the Audi e-tron GT, seen above. Per Car and Driver, it is set to arrive for 2021 sharing underpinnings with the Porsche Taycan. It should be followed rather quickly by the also set to debut in 2021 Audi Q4 e-tron, riding on the same chassis as the upcoming VW ID.4. Next, they are looking forward to the new for 2022 Hummer EV by GMC, a vehicle that’s reveal was initially scheduled for next week, but has since been delayed. The list of cars worth waiting for is alphabetical, not chronological, which brings us back to 2021 and the all-electric replacement for the Jaguar XJ large sedan. I’m imagining a Jaguar I-Pace stretched out to take on the Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air. The Air is a car that isn’t on the Car and Driver list but IS on my watch list. The last EV they deem worth the wait is the Volkswagen ID.4. I don’t disagree with any of their picks, but I think that they missed a few. Starting with the 800 pound gorilla on the upcoming EV scene, the Tesla Cybertruck. How many reservations are there? Beyond just that hype machine though, any of the upcoming all-electric pickups are worthy of our attention. Rivian R1T, electric F-150, and the Hummer that Car and Driver mentioned. That is a segment of vehicles that is at the bottom end of the efficiency curve, and the top of the sales charts. I believe that electric pickups are the watershed moment in the switch to EVs.
