We start with some breaking news, Chevrolet is recalling the 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt due to a chance of catching fire. General Motors is aware of 5 such incidences, out of 70,000 or so vehicles produced. What this means for my fellow Bolt EV drivers is that you should adjust your charge settings to limit the battery to 90% charge capability while GM works out a permanent fix for the issue. It took me about 60 seconds to activate my target charge level setting. Only cars with battery packs assembled in South Korea appear to have the issue. If your car has a pack assembled in Holland, MI, it sounds like you are safe. Also, if you own a 2020 Bolt (which uses a different pack), your vehicle is not part of the recall and you can continue driving it normally. If you are unable to adjust your charge settings yourself, please reach out to your local dealer so that they can assist you.
Each week, we run across many stories that we’d love to share, but often run out of time to do so. To make sure that you don’t miss out, we round up some of them here for your viewing/reading/listening pleasure on Saturdays.
Surging this week: Tesla opens the world’s largest supercharger location, with 56 stalls, in California. Totem Automobili has shown off they’re gorgeous all-electric Alfa-Romeo Giulia GTA interpretation, and if I had the money… Motorweek checks out the Volkswagen ID.4. And finally, InsideEVs gives a full tour of the Nissan Ariya. Enjoy!
