Volvo ES90 Revealed!
Volvo’s growing line up fully-electric vehicles has a new, and impressive-looking member, the ES90. This sleek new sedan takes everything we love about the brand—Scandinavian design, top-tier safety, and a touch of understated luxury—and wraps it into an all-electric package. So, what’s the deal with the ES90? Let’s dive in.
The Volvo ES90 is the all-electric successor to the beloved S90, which was sold with both gas and PHEV powertrains. When Volvo unveils any new product, we can expect crisp, clean lines, Thor’s Hammer headlights (because what’s a Volvo without them?), and an interior that is on the comfortable side of understated luxury.
The ES90’s reveal was focused on specs for the European model, so some educated guessing and a grain or two of salt are necessary to speculate on what this means for its eventual US release. What we do know is that it will offer a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, putting it in the same performance league as the Polestar 2 and BMW i5. Range in the video is quoted at over 700km, which works out to 430+ miles on the generous WLTP scale. I’m guessing that will work out to around 350 miles of EPA range, right in line with what you’d expect from a premium electric sedan in 2025.
A first for Volvo, the ES90 is built on an 800V fast-charging architecture, that they say will add 180 miles in 10 minutes. On a road trip you can plug in, grab a fika (that’s Swedish for coffee break), and be back on the road in no time.
If there’s one thing Volvo always nails, it’s interiors. The ES90 is no exception. Expect vegan-friendly materials, a massive central touchscreen powered by Google’s Android Automotive with wireless Apple CarPlay, and, of course, seats so comfortable you’ll question why your couch isn’t this good.
Safety? Naturally, it’s next-level. Volvo’s latest driver-assistance tech should be standard, meaning the ES90 will practically drive itself on highways while keeping you protected from all the “spirited” drivers out there.
