Buick Unveils Electra Concept EV in Beijing

At the Auto China 2020 show in Beijing, Buick took the wraps off of the Electra Concept, a forward-looking SUV that borrows a name steeped in Buick history. The concept uses GM’s Ultium batteries and upcoming EV architecture to offer an estimated 410 miles per charge, and a 0-60 mph time around 4 seconds. Given that the concept was shown in China, that range is likely based on the very generous NEDC scale used there. I would anticipate a range closer to 300 miles on the EPA test. Buick’s press release doesn’t mention if the Electra concept shares underpinnings with the Cadillac LYRIQ, but the two cars appear very similar in size. Also not mentioned is the possibility of production or if it would come to the US. My guess is yes on both counts, enjoy!

“Today, Buick’s innovative thinking and imagination of future intelligent mobility have reached the next level with the Electra,” said Sam Basile, executive vice president of SAIC-GM. “I am confident that the aesthetics and technology innovations reflected on the Electra will ultimately help reset consumers’ expectations, just as all previous Buick concepts have done.”
