Edmunds pits the Chevrolet Bolt EV against the Hyundai Kona Electric

Bolt EV vs… is a question that I will be wrestling with this spring, as the lease on my Chevrolet Volt is coming to a close. Luckily, the good folks at Edmunds were kind enough to put together a comparison video for me, lol. They make several good points for both, and in the end, choose the Kona for it’s interior and longer availability of the EV Tax Credit. General Motors has crossed the 200,000 EV threshold and their tax credits are beginning the process of winding down.

Having sat in both vehicles at NAIAS last week, I agree with their findings on which has the most comfortable driver’s seat. Where I run into an issue, is that the Kona Electric isn’t being offered for sale in Michigan. Per my local dealer, I am not even able to order one here. I would need to drive to a state where Hyundai is selling them, and buy it there. If they are only available in the same states that carry the Hyundai Ionig Electric, that is at least a 500 mile round trip just to take one for a test drive. So the search continues for me. The Kona Electric may be available in Michigan in a year or two, so if you aren’t looking to procure one this summer, it just might be the EV for you.
